What is Pro-M?
Various organizations in the field of day care and family support, encounter ever more multilingual families. This triggers their interest in young children’s multilingual development. This growing interest is why they suggested universities to map out the needs of professionals concerning the theme of multilingualism. That is is how Pro-M was founded, as a cooperation between three universities (KU Leuven, Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and three social organizations (Kind en Gezin, VBJK and Iedereen Leest).
The Pro-M project focuses on the cooperation between child care professionals and parents of children who grow up multilingually. The insights gathered during the study will be used to develop instruments for the sector of day care and parenting support in order to strengthen this cooperation.
Pro-M runs from 2018 until 2021 and stands for ‘‘promoting early multilingualism in childhood and childcare’. Up until now, 20 organisations in the field have planned to implement the instruments developed during the Pro-M project in a sustainable way.
